After surgery

Today has been a crazy mix of emotions.

Andy made it through surgery. He is all doped up and feelin swell. I am a bit giddy about how much better and alert he is this time around. He might be slightly irked by my giddiness.

As well as he is doing there is still some hesitation to all out joy mode.

The surgeon had to leave some tumor cells behind, just like he said he would have to do. the tumor looks to be cancerous. We should get pathology results back in a week.
The surgeon said the prognosis is not good.

The sentence put a heavy weight upon our hearts. The mood in the room was one of grief and sadness. Some confusion and pain.
So we all hugged and cried for awhile.
Then we sat together and prayed
For Christ to come back soon.
For God to work His miracle.
For strength and endurance.
For joy and peace.
For full and total recovery
For hearts that want God's will above our own.
Praised Him for His goodness
Praised Him for His faithfulness.
Praised Him for His sovereignty.

We still have a long road in front of us.
We still have plenty of time for God to work a miracle.
Thank you so much for all the prayers and love you have sent our way.
Please continue to pray for Andy. We covet your prayers.

Now is the time to call upon our very able and mighty savior to do a great miracle in the Captain's life

Lord, come quickly

please leave comments for Andy to see when he wakes up tomorrow!

  11. Andy,

If Cari's giddiness starts to annoy you, I bet you can get the nurse to make her leave the room....seems like that should be your right as the patient. :)

We love you deeply. Will be praying.

  18. Hi Cari and Andy,
I do not remember how I began to follow your blog but I think it was after someone posted something about Caden and I read that and stayed. I have rejoiced with you and celebrated your boys. I am a great grandma now and have walked with the Lord for 41 years. As I typed that I thought I was really saying this: "Once I was young and now I am old. Yet I have never seen the godly abandoned or their children begging for bread." Ps.37.25 I wish I understood His ways in situations like these, but I don't. But I do KNOW He is faithful and He will not fail you. I will pray for you that you will obtain the grace He has for you in the days ahead.

  27. I'm a bit late coming to this, but my heart is just heavy for you and your beautiful family. I will definitely keep you all in my prayers.

I don't normally do this, but part of an old song came to mind and I hope you don't mind if I post the brief lyrics:

"All things work for our good
Though sometimes we don't see how they could
Struggles that break our hearts in two
Sometimes blind us to the truth

Our Father knows what best for us
His ways are not our own
So when your pathway grows dim
And you just don't see Him
    Remember you're never alone

God is too wise to be mistaken
God is too good to be unkind
    So when you don't understand
When you don't see His plan
When you can't trace His hand
    Trust His heart

    He sees the master plan
And He holds our future in His hand
So don't live as those who have no hope
All our hope is found in Him

    We see the present clearly
But He sees the first and the last
    And like a tapestry
    He's weaving you and me
To someday be just like Him

God is too wise to be mistaken
God is too good to be unkind
    So when you don't understand
When you don't see His plan
When you can't trace His hand
    Trust His heart

    With many prayers,
    Christina

God promises to be near the brokenhearted; I know He is by your side. Know that so many of us are praying for you guys.
    Romans 15:13
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
    Lots of prayers and love--

  31. Andy & Car,
I've been praying for you both & those little ones several times over the past few days. Today while driving to Indy I was rocking out to 'In the Air' by Phil Collins & I was preparing for my big drum solo, when I started cracking up laughing. I was reminded of when we used to help out with the youth at church & Andy & I used to play around with the drum set & act like rock stars. Do you remember how we were going to start a band & call ourselves Guy; Girl? I passed on my drum solo today & instead turned the radio off to praise God for some good, funny memories & to pray to Him for His will & for your peace & comfort. I will continue to lift you up in my prayers.
    Love to you both!
    Jess

  34. Hey Captain! I'll never forget getting in line at Target, looking up ahead and seeing your fabulous Cari in front of me. And then she turns and introduces this handsome looking bald guy as The Captain she's always talking about (when she's not talking about the boys or God). It was very fun to meet you and put a face to the dude I had been praying about. Still praying for y'all!

  37. I have followed your blog since your loss of Caden. You are both such an inspiration and your faith and trust in the Lord is truly uplifting. I have been lifting you all up in prayer and will continue to do so. The will of God may not be easy to understand, but knowing that He has your best interest at heart and that He continually holds you in the palm of His hand is such a Blessing.

  39. One more thing. I was rereading some posts from around Andy's last surgery and I found these words from the ever wise Cari: "God has carried us this far...he is not about to plop us down in the middle of nowhere without some help or guidance. Eyes on the Savior...". I needed to hear that as a friend trying to get my mind around the news of the last few days. Thought you might be encouraged to reread it too. Mich

  40. I found this blog over the weekend and have come back to read past posts on and off since then. We even share a mutual friend and I randomly found a comment of hers on here. I wanted to let you know in the just the few days I knew about you two, I have actually changed the way I pray and the way I praise God. You are both an inspiration to me and I have shared your story and will continue to do so.

I am praying for the Ultimate Healer to take over these results and turn them around. The love Andy shows you is incredible and I pray for that everyday in my own marriage.

Thanks for letting me into your family, if only on these pages. It has changed me.
